Domtar improves quality control in product—and presentation
The Challenge
As a high-end manufacturer of specialty paper, Domtar needed to protect their product and preserve their brand image. Their high value-add samples had to be delivered to the design community on-demand — and arrive in pristine condition. Still, they needed to reduce costs even with this image-conscious product.
The Solution
Aero created a customized process within the WMS that attached a tag on these products to designate them as high-handle. These items are picked to tote rather than sent directly to the carton, then rehandled to ensure they are securely packed and protected to maintain the brand image. We also implemented an online shopping cart to allow customers to view samples with ease. With our expertise in the paper industry, the Aero team was able to manage the process to the same level of quality for these detailed, specialized products.
The Results
We were able to maintain the quality of Domtar paper but reduce their costs by 28%. We gave their Fulfillment Manager better visibility at the transaction level, granting broader control of her operations because they could better track and control who was ordering. |
